• Red Oak ISD Adult Transition Program (RISE)

     

    The Red Oak ISO Adult Transition Program (RISE) is a community-based program for students with disabilities who are 18 to 21 years of age. Adult students receive personcentered planning to support self-advocacy, self-determination, and person-directed planning. The staff collaborates with local businesses, adult agencies, and community resources to provide a systematic approach to help students transition to adult life.

    We believe that collaboration with students, families, and community stakeholders is vital for developing individualized plans that foster independence and prepare students to become productive citizens. Our goal is to provide a seamless transition to life after public school by offering multiple opportunities for students to learn and apply essential skills.

    Red Oak ISO Transition services is committed to collaborating with families, businesses and community services to develop educational and vocational opportunities to prepare students with disabilities to attain their highest potential and contribute to their community. 

    Methodology

    The Red Oak ISO Adult Transition Program (RISE) is a community-based program for stu­dents with disabilities who are 18 to 21 years of age. Adult students receive person-­centered planning to support self-advocacy, self-determination, and person-directed plan­ning. The staff collaborates with local busi­nesses, adult agencies, and community re­sources to provide a systematic approach to help students transition to adult life. 

    Services and opportunities include: 

    • Personal goal setting
    • Career exploration
    • Job coaching and on the job training
    • Instruction in self-advocacy and self­determination
    • Flexible schedule based on individual needs reflecting activities as same aged peers
    • Participation in rec and leisure activities Access to community resources, such as library and recreation centers, and adult ser­vice providers

    Typical activities may include: 

    • Seeking and maintaining paid employment
    • Practicing employability skills in student-run businesses
    • Seeking transportation options (public/natural supports within community)
    • Practicing basic household living skills
    • Planning and cooking simple meals
    • Developing and managing a planner and per­sonal budget
    • Going out to eat at both fast food and sit down restaurants
    • Volunteering in the community in area of interest
    • Shopping in the community
